When they saw GTN Automotive's Targa hardtop for 997 and 996 convertibles.

Kinja'd!!!

Keep the targa all the time, ditch the main folding top, and have the rear glass hinged on the lid that formerly covered the convertible top.

They went a step further and automated the targa top, rather than GTN's manual split T-top removal process.

Needless to say... I WANT ONE.

With all of Porsche's options, I hope they have a dark finish option on the targa bar, though... I would LOVE to see that blue body color, with a dark charcoal or brushed carbon look targa bar, windshield frame, and side mirror cap, with a tinted rear window. Basically make the car two tone, and all dark gray/off-black above the window sill line... and a black stripe and stone guard at the bottom.

I have wondered how much it would cost to take a 996 Carrera 4 Cabriolet 6-speed, and gut the convertible top, the rear roll-over hoop hardware (not needed or compatible with the GTN rear window), and just upholster the rear cabin area, fit a structural fixed roll hoop under the targa bar, and re-cut the side window glass to fit the targa bar's more vertical angle, if possible. Basically make a 996 targa similar to this new one, not like the official 996 Targa big-sunroof car.

(996/997 cabrio side door glass overlaps the GTN targa bar, hence the cutouts in the sides, but if the rear quarter windows from the convertible top are GONE, the side glass doesn't need to fit it anymore.)
